Zebras on the migration.

This herd of zebras was spotted by ranger Deus as they moved out of the northernmost part of the serengeti on their way back south belatedly though as they should have  left the area a few months back.Usually zebras are the first to move into areas of taller grass when migrating, followed by the wildebeests as they are the trail blazers, but on this occasion, these group of about 2000 were the last of the migrants. We hope to see them again in the month of July or August.

Hyenas scavenging on Eland.

On an afternoon game drive north of the camp, ranger Jaffery and his guests came upon some hyenas that were busy feeding on the remains of an eland in the open plains. They were not the killers of the antelope but had taken the opportunity to eat when the lions had left.Each of the five animals were struggling to have a piece of the meat from the vetebrae but very little flesh remained on it.

Two brothers share a meal.

Ranger Deus and his guests found two brother lions sharing a kill in the open grasslands of the Lamai plains as a lioness looked on from a distance. The lioness had already had her share of the meal but later, the two males kept her off to  finish the remaining portion. Nearby, a group of vultures had already descended and were waiting for a chance to go in but ended up getting nothing as the lions ate everything. Away in the distance some zebras were looking on as it was one of their own that had been killed.

Kings feasting on a zebra

On a full day game drive on the Lamai plains, ranger Jaffery and his guests found some two male lions feasting on a young zebra which had been killed with the help of some lionesses from their pride. At first they were sharing the meal peacefully when it was still big, but eventually, one took off with the remaining portion onto a shady spot under a tree to finish it up. This is a behavior which normally happens when the meal is not big enough for a pride forcing them to hunt again.
