A Big herd of Elephants was spotted near the camp accompanied by their Young ones. While walking Elephants usually keep their young ones in the middle to protect them from any Danger. The young Elephants were surrounded by their Mothers, cousins, sisters, brothers and their   Grandmother who is usually their best Teacher. Baby Elephants   are very playful and innocent in the way they walk and do things especially trying to imitate others. As we approached them with the vehicle the matriarch was on us. We had to retrieve back.

Talek river has been replenished with rain water that collected upstream after the rains a couple of days ago. The reeds along are thicker, taller, and lusher. As the sun climbs to midday one of the lioness along the river is found by Daniel and his guest having dicovered the coolness of the reeds, the cubs follow her and her sleeping position invite them to nurse. she lay still and the cubs pushed one another to enjoy the precious meal.

We spotted the Solitary Bull buffalo while at the woodland near the Mara River. It stopped eating immediately it saw us and started to advance towards us for myopic curiosity then stopped. Guest were amazed on how sharp it was. Solitary buffaloes are old bulls which usually group together and are mostly short tempered and  easily attack without provocation. The guest decided to call them the retired army generals.

The famous cheetah that gave birth last year near the lookout hill by the mara river is doing well despite the loss of one cub to lions around November. This annoyed the mother cheetah and she went across the sand river to Serengeti for a while and came back over christmas safely with the three cubs. Of late the leap has been hanging around Burrungat plains and the cubs have grown big and look healthy.

Today on full day game drive Daniel and Gordon with their guests came across the family by a lonely tree and they looked relaxed and peaceful.

The Mother cheetah with her four cubs were spotted by Deus within the Lamai plain. The Mother Cheetah  looked  restless most of the  time as she could be seen standing on the termite mounds from time to time  which is a good  sign that she is watching for her cubs  predators and secondly food for her Cubs especially now  that she  has more stomachs  to feed.

Cheetahs have good eyesight and are blessed with speed making them the most formidable hunters. Cubs can stay with their mother up to over one and a half years before parting ways.

Jaffery with his Guests along the Wagakura kopjes come across a Lioness on top of rock with its cubs. After few minutes the lioness started stalking Zebras which were happily feeding near the Kopjes. The stallion sensed the presence of the   Lioness and alerted the rest to flee from the danger zone. Guests were amazed by the sharp sense of smell and communication between the zebras.

Kokan on a Morning game drive approached the Wood land and saw a big male Giraffe feeding on the Acacia leaves making it look like a tower. His guests got so interested especially in seeing the giraffes long black eyelashes which made it look magnificent and its long prehensile tongue which was constantly sliding between   the prickles feeding so sustainably without breaking the acacia braches.

Giraffes are known to leave for about 25 years and have a gestation period of 15 months. A full grownup male can  weigh to about 1,600kg and have a height of 6m .Adults are not vulnerable to predators but only when  drinking water which they  do once a week.

Bull Elephants are usually not very aggressive and will always avoid human confrontation as much as possible.They will send signal to warn you if  trying to get too close, like flapping their Ears or even trumpeting. They are known to have good memory and can be very temperamental if annoyed causing massive damage.

This has been the case here at the camp with the Bull Elephant which is usually left behind by the Herd and will stay around the camp for almost a week before leaving to join the herd. It will be seen most of the time eating very close to the Guests and Staff tents. A Bull Elephant can eat close to 450 Kg of vegetation a day, forcing it to eat day and night .

Martial eagles are the most powerful birds of prey. They are made for a kill and will easily kill medium sized Birds, Reptiles and Mammals like Rabbit, Rock Hyrax and Small Antelopes.

 Gordon and his guest saw the martial eagle eating its kill near a rock, which happened to be the Rock Hyrax. It started by peeling off the hair and thereafter started enjoying its meal.

The short rains came and subsided shortly in November last year but came back in full swing over christmas and after new year.This has facilitated good pasture growth in the open savannah in maasai mara reserve, enjoyed by the gazelles currently. The cheetahs inturn have been attracted to this fields and driving through can reward with the cats sighting.

Daniel on full day game drive came across a cheetah and a cub that had made a kill a few minutes before arriving. The sun was biting hard but they continued to fill before the larger predators come to take over and was stunning to watch them feeding.
