A large group of zebras are sometimes found in the area near our camp. they are some of the main herbivores of the serengeti grasslands. About 1000 of these animals have been roaming the area near the camp, but when there are  predators around, they disappear for a while. The type of zebras that occur in the serengeti and mara ecosystem is the common zebra.

Browsers of Serengeti.

The masai giraffes are a common feature on our game drives. Usually they see us long before we see them as their height enables them to do that.They are the tallest  browsers (Feeding on leaves) of the serengeti bushlands. Their finger-like tongue enables them to grasp softer twigs off the trees and shrubs.On this particular day, they were the first animals we came across on our game drive.There are different races but the same type of Giraffe in east africa, but the serengeti one is known as the masai giraffe.

Whenever there is a kill on the plains, it attracts alot of attention from both predators and scavengers of different kinds.Once the main predatorshave left, it becomes a free for all scramble for the left-overs.This is what happened on ranger Kokan's game drive this afternoon. A lion that had been eating a zebra left with the remaining portion from the kill site leaving behind some bits. This attracted vultures that were waiting nearby. A jackal also moved in but had a difficult time keeping the vultures off.
