Midday is the lunch time for the three brother cheetahs. Today Ranger Godson saw them as they were trying to separate a Topi from the herd in order to bring it down. They were quite close but Topis knowing their trick defied to be split making it impossible for the brothers to make a kill. A Cheetah has no strength to bring down a Topi on its own. It   will call for more than two cheetahs. Later they gave up and went to rest under a tree and work for the next strategy

Water holes in the Lamai plains have become the resting ground for the Hyenas. Today we found them in a huge pool splashing water like humans. After a while we saw one Hyena moving out of the water with rotten head of the Zebra connected to its back bone. After reaching a safe place far from others it started to have its meal. The rest of the Hyenas followed and started the scramble for a share of the carcass.

The Masai Mara game reserve has a good population of lions. Lion territories can be between15-30 square kilometers depening on the amount of game in the region. A pride of lions can be composed of 5-30 members, young males are kicked out of the pride at the age of two and a half years and can only own a pride when they get to about five years. Due to immense competition male lions form coalitions so as to get a chance to breed and hold the territory for a longer period. Male coalitions can comprise of two to five mature males.

 Lamai plains are known to hold a lot of Animals especially when the migration has moved to the south like it is currently. We have three brother Cheetahs that are using the advantage of tall grass to hunt by concealing themselves shortening the distance of ambush hence making easy kills, especially of Thompson gazelles. As the ranger spotted them they had just ambushed a herd of Thompson  gazelle which happened to have  already prepared themselves after they had gotten the cheetahs scent.

Peter and his two guests were on a full-day game drive and saw many lions as they were driving around the Mara. The highlight of the day was when they came across two lionesses with their eight cubs sitting under a sausage tree. As they say nature is full of suprises, just as Peter and his guests were about to exit the National reserve they saw a young male Leopard lying on a tree. They watched for a while until he decided to jump down and head off towards the nearby bushes.

Male Leopards are solitary and only come in contact with the female during mating period.

We came across two male lions and four lionesses which form part of Lamai pride of 22 that dominate the Lamai plains. Today they looked very relaxed as their bellies were full. They had lots of confidence. From a distance we could see  Topi, Zebra and Thompson gazelle that had gathered drinking water from a   water hole. It became clear that the lions managed to make  easy kills by hiding in the tall grass near the water hole.

A lioness with her beautiful cabs were spotted this week around the Lamai plains by our ranger with his guests.

The mother of the Cabs had decided to bring out her young ones early in the morning to bask in the Serengeti Sunshine before the day grew hotter.  As it turned out, the two cabs enjoyed this rare treat from their mother and couldn’t get enough of their play time.

Normally a lioness will always hide her cabs to protect them from other predators both from within and from other animal species and only letting them come out of their hiding for short periods during the day.

Jaffery saw 30 lions on their game drive apart from seeing leopard, Black Rhino, Herds and Herds of Elephant and   Buffalo, making them see the big five in one day.  Serengeti is vast but we still have a chance of seeing plenty of game in this Region.  Serengeti is associated with Migration, though when it’s on the south we still experience lots of Game. When migration is on the south, North experience very special game drives with few vehicles on the way. When you see a game it becomes a private one. Most Clients when they come back from the Game drives are usually overwhelmed for seeing what they did not expect and wonder why   game along this region is associated with migration .Its not unusual to find Elephants coming  very close to the Guests  tents during the day like it happened today.

On a fullday game drive ranger Japeth and his guests spent the better part of the day around the Sopa region. His guests found it amazing to drive through the never ending grassy plains of the Mara game reserve. Japeth explained to his guests how the predators are having a hard time finding prey due to the long grass. Just before midday they came across two lionesses feeding on a buffalo carcass. As they watched the lionesses feed, they noticed how one of them kept trying to get the little meat that was left on the carcass. Its as though the lions knew the next meal was not anytime soon!

Elephants need to be balanced in the ecosystem. when too many can degrade the environment. Elephants do not only feed on grass but also on leaves, tree barks, fruits and roots. During game drive the Ranger come across broken trees all over by elephants. This behavior   destructed the Guest attention viewing elephants as destroyers of environment .The Ranger told them that , on the other hand elephants are known to improve the vegetation  with their dropping.
