Ferdinand and his four guests started their full-day game drive early and were hoping to get down to Mara river. Ferdinand took a nice game route through the Burrungat and Meta plains and later started driving along 'Ol keju Rongai' stream where they saw thousands of wildebeest and zebra. As they were driving along the stream they noticed some wildebeest jumping into the water and some of the young seemed to be having alot of fun.

Two rhinos on the sand river plains.

Our guests who were on game drive near the sand river plains  were rewarded by a sighting of two black rhinos which had just crossed over the dry sand river from the masai mara. They were a mother and an older calf of about three years of age. They had not been spotted for almost two months in their bushland habitat along the river and therefore it was a good plus for our guests who were really longing to see one.

Migration season brings alot of food for most predators and the vultures. River crossings down at mara river are very spectacular and can last for close to an hour depending on the size of the wildebeest herd. Some of the crossing points are easy to tackle while others are tough.

Peter and his two guests went down to mara river and at one of the crossing points they saw a few dead gnus and alot of floating carcasses in the river. Vultures take advantage and feed on this carcasses without worring about being chased away by the larger predators like Lions and Hyenas.

It was during an early morning game-drive when ranger Peter and his guests came across a secretary bird busy having its morning meal. The secretary bird kept on plucking off bit by bit of the prey making it difficult to see what it was feeding on. A short while later the secretary bird carried the prey high up and started swallowing it.

 Secretary bird also known as the hunting bird spend most of their day walking in the grass fields looking for prey like mice but aslo tackle snakes very well when they come across them.

The king taking life easy.

On an early morning game drive, we found a beautiful male lion sitting on a grassy termite mound in a very relaxed way. He had a full stomach after having had a breakfast of some wildebeest  in the thickets nearby and so was in a happy mood. He never moved much but he would from time to time switch his sight from one direction to the other. The guests thought that he was just taking life easy.

The four male lions found along the Talek river have dominated this territory for over two years now.The males move along very well and the only differences arises when a female is on heat and chooses one of the dudes for copulation. This was a case when Daniel and the four guest on full day game drive came across the coaliation that had a battle probably that morning as one of them had blood stains allover the mane through to the chest.This was aresult of a fight to win a female that was only a few meters away from the three boys and next to her was the fourth brother. The injury was close to the left eye ball and at first Daniel and the guests got worried that he had lost the eye ball to realise shortly that it was ok.

Initially it was the Elephants, then the wildebeests and now the zebras are visiting the camp. This week, big herds of zebras have made the vicinity of the camp their habitat and grazing ground. Individually and in small groups they graze around the tents in the mornings and spend most of the afternoons in the shady trees and shrubs around. The guests who are in the camp have enjoyed seeing these grazing animals right infront of their tents. This herd of zebras are part of the migrating animals which move alongside the wildebeests on their way back to the southern parts of Serengeti.

The cheetah with the four cubs lately seen near look out hill close to the Mara river has lost one cub, most probably to the bigger predators. This area was dangerous because the area pride of lions moved closer to the river to stalk the river crossing.

On full day game drive john and his guests' found her strangulating a  just caught impala and the cubs had just joined and were anxious to have a meal. she dragged the kill to a nearby bush to avoid attraccting vultures and bigger predators. The guests wished the three a life through.

Serengeti Bushtops  is a migration zone.

It is another week that the wildebeests on their return journey have stayed around the camp in their thousands. It is their "playground" as they move back and forth in long columns like a colony of ants foraging for food. The rolling hills and valleys around the camp are a spectacle to watch as they are full of these animals on their long journey southwards. At times they would get scared and take off for a little while then settle down again to graze. As a result of these animals, we have had lots of lions roaring every night as they become contented after feasting on these animals. Our guests have been having the best opportunity to view these animals from the verandah of their tents. wild dogs are rear species, and one should consider oneselve lucky if you happen to see them in the wild. Interestingly over the last one and half year the wild dogs have been sighted in isaaten conservancy. The dogs were not around recently for some time and we knew they were denning. They returned last week and they have cubs.

Today after fullday game drive the scout informed Daniel that the dogs are with a patrol half a kilometer away from the camp. After informing the guest if they would like and they said yes Daniel took a quick drive to find the dogs lying lazily after a kill of a wildbeest.
